ATUG’S 25th Annual Conference, ATUG 2009, was held in Sydney at the Australian Technology Park, on 13 March 2009.

2009 promises to be a big year for communications users with decisions around the National Broadband Network, progress on ATUG’s Roam Fair Campaign, stronger 3G competition driving better mobile voice and broadband prices, developments in the Digital Economy.

ATUG 2009 on the 13th March 2009 will start the year with an update from the politicians, policy makers, finance, market and technology experts and industry regulators on the issues that they will be dealing with in 2009 and the impacts end users need to consider.

The Minister, Senator Stephen Conroy has been confirmed, and the Secretary of the Department, the ACCC’s Chairman, ACMA’s Deputy Chairman will all provide an overview for 2009. Ernie Newman, CEO of TUANZ will address the conference on New Zealand’s plans for fibre and experiences with their new approach to regulation. Speakers from industry will cover IP Technology trends, Mobile Trends and Market trends. There will be an overview of the financial markets as they affect the telco sector and the impact of telco decisions on investment and an update for end users on price and contract benchmark indicators for 2009.

The ATUG 2009 Gala Awards Networking Function held on 12th March, 2009 will see the awarding of ATUG’s Annual Broadband Awards and Excellence Awards.

ATUG 2009 provides end users, suppliers and policy makers with an opportunity to see what’s coming up in 2009 and what the impacts will be for business and government enterprises.

The accelerated development of IP networks and services, and their uptake by SMEs and residential end users in 2009, 3G mobile data services, converging of fixed and mobile services, true broadband, wireless access and security solutions are among the new applications, products and services that are starting to make reality of the rhetoric of the networked economy.
